. In these
packs
extra
personal
clothing
was
kept
, and
articles
of
adornment
and
ceremonial
regalia
.
Supplies
of
dried
meat
were
sometimes
stored
away
in
compact
bundles
and
securely
tied
in
one
of these
packs
.
When
a
family
were
traveling
their
various
supplies
and
personal
belongings
were
put
in
packs
and
tied
upon
ponies
, or, as in
earlier
days
,
before
the
advent
of the
horse
, the
packs
were
lashed
upon
a
couple
of
poles
and
one
end
of
each
pole
tied
to a
broad
leather
band
fastened
around
the
body
of a
dog
, the
other
end
of the
pole
trailing
on the
ground
