About this collection

The Blue Heron Press Collection of Artists Books is a diverse and eclectic collection of bookworks gathered by UNL Cather Professor Karen Kunc over 25 years.  The books include works by significant established book artists working throughout the country, as well as little known or “occasional” book artists, former students, and unknown craftsmen.  Contemporary artists have an interest in exploring the book form as a commonly understood object and a historically significant form through visual and conceptual sequences, material relationships and de-construction from the traditions to create a new “reading/viewing” experience for all audiences.  The collection reflects a wide range of bookmaking styles and structures, along with diverse methods and techniques that combine content with form and craft, and include literary private press publications, sculptural book objects, unique manuscript traditions, low tech printed matter, expansive accordion books, typographic text and image relationships.
