    • Abstract Chimney Rock is one of several erosional remnants found in the North Platte Valley. Its relationship to the Wildcat Ridge can be seen on the 1973 satellite image. A light snow cover on the ground enhances the topography.

    • Abstract About four or five million years ago the rate of erosion, especially by streams, exceeded the rate of deposition. This plain, which once was as high as the top of the Wildcat Ridge, began to erode away.

    • Abstract Erosion carried away vast amounts of sediment and left the present landscape. Chimney Rock remained as an isolated remnant of this former great plain, along with Courthouse Rock, ScottÆs Bluff, and the Wildcat Hills.
