Notes	These temples are located along the west bank of the Malaprabha River at Pattadakal, an important center of the early Chalukya dynasty that is generally believed to have served as the site for dynastic coronations. The Jambulinga and Sangameshvara (originally called the Vijayeshvara) temples exemplify, respectively, variations of the northern (nagara) and southern (dravida) Indian styles of Chalukya architecture. The combination of northern and southern styles at a given temple site is characteristic of building practices in this region as developed by the early Chalukya monarchs, as well as later dynasties. The buildings indicate that artisans utilized different architectural traditions in order to develop a range of new idioms. These temples, like all the major temples at Pattadakal, are dedicated to the god Shiva.
