Notes	Project Description: The corner of First and Fremont sign: flashing interlocking H's form a concave screen that sets off the words 'Horseshoe' and 'Gambling' done in an Old West style typeface. Along the side of the building, 'dogleg' spikes of neon shoot upward like lightning bolts in reverse. The architects integrated proposals from YESCO [Young Electric Sign Company] designers into their final design. When the Horseshoe took over The Mint in 1988, the 1962 'doglegs' from the original Horseshoe were repeated all the way down the block. A 'modified onion-shaped bullnose' sign at First and Fremont was produced by YESCO. Note the 'Glitter Gulch' sign just down from this club. In 1946, the Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce gave the name 'Glitter Gulch' to a three block stretch of Fremont Street. ;Project History: The Horseshoe Club was established in the Eldorado Club building by Benny Binion in 1950. He replaced the existing miner sign on the corner with a horseshoe and horse. In 1962, by Wayne McAllister and William Wagner remodeled the old Horseshoe which had expanded into the space where the Boulder Club once stood. (The Boulder Club burned in 1956.) They fronted the old Hotel Apache, a three-story brick structure at Second and Fremont, with a neon sign, which became an icon of 1950s design. To create the sign, McAllister and Wagner asked for proposals from YESCO and combined several of them in their final design. In 1988, the Horseshoe took over the neighboring Mint, enabling it to dominate the block. ;[In 2004 Binion's Horseshoe closed due to bankruptcy. It was sold to Harrah's Entertainment and MTR Gaming Group and reopened. In 2005 MTR Gaming Group assumed complete ownership and renamed the club 'Binions.]
