:
Tiki
heads
out
front
provide
an
eerie
welcome
to a
casino
resort
which
features
a
classic
pool
area
surrounded
by
low-rise
buildings
. The
oversized
Tiki
heads
were
originally
located
at the
Stardust
and are
now
at the
corner
of
Las
Vegas
Boulevard
and
Tropicana
Avenue
.
Since
the
original
construction
, at
least
2
high-rise
towers
have been
added
. The
pool
area
features
swim-up
Black
Jack
tables
,
serpentine
streams
,
waterfalls
and
tropical
landscaping
.

:
It
was
built
in the
grand
tradition
of the
Flamingo
and
away
from the
congestion
of the
most
developed
portion
of the
Strip
.
When
it
opened
,
it
had
300
rooms
and
cost
$15
million
.
It
was
built
by
Miami
architect
,
M
.
Tony
Sherman
and
financed
by
Ben
Jaffe
,
who
also
owned
the
Fontainebleau
in
Miami
. A
22-story
tower
was
added
in
1977
. In
1979
,
it
was
purchased
by
Ramada
Hotels
and
another
22-story
tower
was
added
.
