Notes	Project Description: The current sign on the Strip is 228 feet-tall, one of the tallest. The design for this thin column of vertical lettering is based on the 1962 sign, a three-sided 127-foot sign which now stands at Paradise Road and Sahara Avenue. Originally, this was a low-rise building, but a 26-story tower was added in 1988. The pool terrace and room wings date from 1952. If you ignore the highrise backdrop, the pool terrace retains the scale and detail of 1950s Las Vegas. ;Project History: The original building was designed by Max Meltzman and financed by Milton Prell and Del Webb, a prominent builder. Essentially a motel in form, low wings spun outward from the entry. At the entrance was a tall brick pylon with the name in horizontal lettering across the top. The resort had a North African Theme. The 127-foot tall, slender sign dating from 1962 started the trend toward ever-bigger signs. ;Martin Stern, Jr. was the architect of the 1959 tower and additions from 1960-1979.
