Notes	Sponsor/Developer: The Veterans Administration's Art in Architecture Program Project Description: This large hospital entryway contains an illuminated hearth, with etched-mirror three-dimensional glass murals set into a glass block mosaic. Images portray a 'swords to plowshares' theme. A sword-wielding soldier turns into a farmer behind a plow as visitors pass through the entryway. A fire glows in the fireplace, creating, as the artist describes it, 'a place for personal reflection'. Our American tradition of allegiance to conscience and to the voluntary spirit is reflected in the choice of the Roman legend of Cincinnatus, the citizen-soldier/citizen-farmer, as the artwork theme. Project History: The Veterans Administration selected Richard Posner to produce a permanent artwork for a new addition to the hospital. The artist worked with the project architects to develop the entryway for the new addition. He was commissioned to do the work in 1982, and the project was dedicated in 1984.
