Subject Information	The Pyramid of the Moon is situated at a place of honor in Teotihuacan, at the head of the Avenue of the Dead, and acts as a mystical link between the city and the Cerro Gordo mountain to the north. Once the largest city in the Americas, Teotihuacan had a population of about 50,000 inhabitants, who lived in adobe houses and worshipped at massive stone pyramids from the 4th to the 8th centuries. Teotihuacan was built by the Aztecs and means 'place of the gods' and is considered the most important city of Mesoamerica in the Classic Period (AD 300 - 900).
