Teotihuacan was built by the Aztecs and means 'place of the gods' and is considered the most important city of Mesoamerica in the Classic Period (AD 300 - 900). Once the largest city in the Americas, Teotihuacan had a population of about 50,000 inhabitants, who lived in adobe houses and worshipped at massive stone pyramids from the 4th to the 8th centuries.
