Harmony Borax works ruins (the first borax mine in the valley was the Eagle Borax Works that operated from 1882 to 1884, while the later Harmony Borax Works, 1883-88, popularized Death Valley with the famous 165-mile 20-mule team wagon run to the railhead)
Death Valley National Park has more than 3.3 million acres of spectacular desert scenery, interesting and rare desert wildlife, complex geology, undisturbed wilderness, and sites of historical and cultural interest. Bounded on the west by the 11,049-foot Telescope Peak and on the east by the 5,475-foot Dante's View, Badwater is the lowest point (-282 feet) in the valley and in the western hemisphere.
