Subject Information	One of the projects of the Agence d'Architecture de l'Office d'Habitation ' Bon Marche. (An agency to provide low cost housing, led by Henri Sellier, the office was abolished in 1937.) 'HBM' is therefor synonymous with subsidized housing. Between 1920 and 1939, 16 'garden cities' were built, some near Paris. The blocks promoted the ideas of the 'hygienists' who wanted to provide ventilation, sunlight and the comforts of hot and cold water and gas for heating. There are 815 units in this particular block, now occupied by the middle class with no rent control. Bow-strings, balconies, terraces and pergolas animate the buildings.
