Subject Information	Jules Francois Camille Ferry (1832 -1893) was a French statesman (44th and 49th Prime Minister of France) and republican. This monument celebrates his work establishing the non-clerical organization of public education including the establishment of French as the official language of the Republic. (The Jules Ferry laws on public, laic and mandatory education, enacted in 1881-1882.)
