Notes	Built 1989. Project Description: A major element of this project is a plaza that ties together an existing building with the new addition. The masonry texture and details in the walls, gates, and other fixtures provide a contrast to the monolithic concrete building to which it is connected by a skybridge. The large-scale, gridded windows of the upper stories enclose the studio space and provide both light and protection from the Southwest sun. Finely-scaled metal work provides a regional connection to Southwest architectural tradition. The exterior finish is precast and sandblasted concrete units with exposed aggregate, along with tan and red Sedona sandstone and granite. The building contains 40 studios and 20 computer-ready studios. The connecting bridge contains school commons for exhibitions. Project cost: $11.5 million. Project History: The firm was selected in a national competition. Construction began in 1987 and was completed in May, 1989. Project Location: University Ave., Tempe, AZ. Size: 110,000 sq. ft.
