Notes	Built 1989. Project Description: This sweeping complex is a masterpiece of surprise and innovation. Its Southwestern style asserts a low, unifying silhouette highlighted by towers and loft projections, which reflect the forms of surrounding mountains and buttes. The central plaza is the heart of this plan. The largest component of the complex is a museum to house the University's $15-million art collection. A 500-seat theater, instructional spaces for dance and drama, and attendant support areas are also included. Project cost: $13.5 million. Project History: This project is named for former ASU President J. Russell Nelson. Predock won a competition over 57 other entries in 1985. With only general specifications including square feet and acoustical requirements, Predock developed a highly ritualistic and unique architectural form, which he credits more to his encounter with classical styles as a fellow of the American Academy in Rome, than to recent Post Modernist trends in architecture. Size: 121,011 sq. ft.
