Description	Floating canopy. Buildings without a claim to architecture are all too familiar, but the French pavilion bizarrely offers architecture apparently without a building. The great blue canopy, supported at its tips by carbon-fiber columns with brushed chrome surfaces, defines a vast empty space over a platform of stepped glass. The mirrored west wall both denies its own substance and doubles the apparent space of the platform. Beneath the glass pavement a rectangular sunken well with reflecting walls repeats projected multi-media images to infinity. Visitors experienced the disorienting interior either temporarily from moving escalators accessible from wither side of the platform or more fully by following the main itinerary. Two queues over the glass pavement led to an entrance with three elevators which took new arrivals to a viewing platform right below the canopy. After climbing down reassuringly substantial stairs at the rear, visitors then entered a virtual reality of darkness, glass floors and projected images.
