Built 1985. Project Description: A sculpture by Jorge Luis Rodriquez is the prominent artwork feature in this park, which also includes integrated seating and brick pavers set in semi-circle patterns. A wrought-iron fence surrounds and protects this tiny park. The East Harlem Artpark was built as a joint enterprise between the New York City Parks Department and the Department of Housing Preservation and Development. An old, small city park and an unused street were combined to form a larger park, designed by Lee Weintraub. The new park is located next to a recently built housing project and is maintained by a citizen's group from the project. Another sculpture by Lee Weintraub is located along a side wall of the park. This artwork consists of two vertical glass block panels at angles to each other, with a small serpent figure in the middle. A grove of deciduous trees provides protection during the summer. Sponsor/Developer: The New York City Parks Department and the Department of Housing Preservation and Development. Project Location: East 121st Street and Sylvan Place between Lexington and Third Avenues, New York, NY. Size: 100 ft. square
