Notes	Built 1978. Project Description: Located in a heavily urbanized part of Seattle, this small precious park features a 22-foot waterfall that cascades down a boulder-faced wall. The granite boulders used in the waterfall were taken from a nearby mountain. The seating and planting in this space create a quiet place for relaxation. A heated trellis maintains a comfortable temperature during cool Seattle weather. At this site United Parcel Service was founded in 1907 in a small basement office under the sidewalk of an old building. Waterfall Garden has an L-shaped upper terrace slightly raised above the surrounding street, and a lower rectangular terrace at the center of the park. The upper terrace is protected by a transparent trellis roof. The focus of the garden is a waterfall composed of natural granite boulders and a mass of cascading water. The falling water requires the pumping of 5,000 gallons of water per minute. Landscaping provides a green contrast to the texture and color of the granite. Japanese maples and tanyasho pine are planted amid lily turf ground cover. Azaleas, rhododendron, David viburnun and sarcococca provide early spring and summer blossoms.
