Built 1993; Project Description: Located in the historic Lowertown warehouse district, this 2-acre park harmoniously blends a naturalistic river, plaza, pavilion, lawns, walkways, shade trees and artist-designed seating to accommodate a variety of recreational uses. The designers were interested in returning the park to its original function as a focal point for civic gathering with pathways leading through the park to a central gathering place. With contemporary demands for barrier-free access and movement, the designers altered grades and improved linkages to the surrounding district. Concerned about noise levels in the park coming from the more active central plaza, a river was constructed which runs diagonally through the park with trees lining its banks to provide an acoustic barrier to the more formal lawn and tree areas. A curving garden walk is also included which features tulip and perennials beds. Artist, Brad Goldberg, designed a circular red sandstone wall 135 feet in diameter that surrounds the central plaza and serves as seating for park users. Project Location: Lowertown, between 5th & 6th St. and Sibley and Wacouta. Size 2 acres
