Built 1987. Project Description: This award winning pedestrian and bicycle trails features spectacular cliff hanging views, serpentine stairway access ramps, historic markers and other interpretive exhibitry. When fully complete it will extend for 22 miles and become an important transportation link between neighboring communities, recreational opportunities and the city of Chattanooga. One of the most the engaging and popular projects to emerge from the Tennessee Riverpark Master Plan was the Riverwalk - a continuous circuit of parks, trails and landmarks that stretches from the Chickamauga Dam through downtown Chattanooga to Moccasin Bend. It will become a catalyst of outdoor activity and a pedestrian link for the citizens of this community. Built to very high standards this $33 million project will be a necklace with various jewels, each being unique and special including the Tennessee Aquarium and Ross's Landing Park and Plaza, the Chattanooga Rowing Center, Centre South Riverport Industrial Park, the historic Bluff Furnace Exhibit, RiverSet Apartments and Heritage Landing residential development. The Walnut Street Bridge portion of this project is an impressive 19th century truss bridge which is used exclusively for pedestrians. The bridge crosses the Tennessee River from downtown to the North Shore District. The bridge was originally constructed in 1891. Sponsor/Developer: Rivervalley Partners (Rivercity Co.) City of Chattanooga and Hamilton County. Project Location: River's edge, Chattanooga, TN. Size: Currently 7 miles, planned 22 miles
