Built ca. 200 A.D. Project Description: The earliest monument of Paris was first built as an arena by the Romans. It was destroyed in 285 A.D. and was restored in 1917. Now it is a park and semi-circular auditorium for about 10,000 spectators. It is believed that the arena was used for gladiator fights and as a theatre. A reconstructed ramp entrance leads through a heavily wooded area to a dirt arena floor where today the arena is often used as a playfield for the children of a nearby housing project. Project Location: rue de Navarre, rue des Arenes, Paris
