Carved ivory 10-tiered pagoda tops a scene depicting a paradise world enclosed by a sea shell. The 3-arched bridges have figures crossing who depict progressive stages of life. The bridges spanning a waterfall connect dwellings and show activities in a bucolic setting of Old China. The ascending scenes within the sea shell suggest phases of life with their accompanying activities, culminating in an old man at the top into retreat for his final days in the pagoda-temple. Sits on wooden base. Aquired in Hong Kong, 1971.
