Bronze sculpture of a Tantric Buddhist guru. Padmasambhava, a Tantric Buddhist guru from India, was brought to Tibet by King Thisong Detson about A.D. 770 to solve problems between the indigenous Bon beliefs and the more recently introduced Buddhist teachings. Padmasambhava founded the first lamasere in Tibet at Samye in 770 and was instrumental in compiling the Bardo Thodal and other important Lamaist sutras. Later Lamaism recognized and honored him as one of the few historical personages in their pantheon. Base filled with seeds.
