Portion
of
field
was
low
enough
to
receive
on
light
irrigation
in
early
spring
by
direct
flow
from
Tri-County
ditch
.
During
growing
season
,
two
light
waterings
were
added
when
pump
was
installed
in
canal
to
take
out
water
left
in to
season
canal
after
direct
flow
from
river
was
shut
off
by
state
authority
May
12
,
1939
.

Kingsley
Dam
completed
and
storage
water
made
available
to
district.)
Average
yield
on
irrigated
field
was
50
bu
.
per
acre
;
adjacent
and
surrounding
lands
without
irrigation
did
not
produce
even
good
fodder
account
dry
weather
,
hot
winds
. This
shows
how
even
an
isolated
field
, with a
small
amount
of
supplemental
water
will
increase
production
under
adverse
weather
conditions
which
frequently
prevail
in this
region
. In
1939
total
annual
precipitation
at
Holdrege
was
18.96
inches
, of
which
13.81
inches
fell
during
growing
season.
