Description	John J. Thieszen showing off his hand dug irrigation well. This article written by Gordon Schmidt, son in law to John J. Thieszen. It is with great respect for which I do not have adequate words, that I identify the meaning of this picture. This picture represents the most important change that occured in the Henderson Community or one should say, in York/Hamiliton Co. This is a Sunday afternoon demonstration of the first irrigation well dug by hand by John J. Thieszen in 1939. This is his F30 tractor undoubtedly under a maximum load, producing what looks like 1,000 gallons per minute. Other firsts by John J. were a corn sheller on a truck, a motor on a threshing machine, a pilot's license, self propelled two row silage cutter, etc. Most importantly a well drilling machine to drill irrigation wells. This picture shows John J at age 35 reveling in his success. Son Albert and Walter Ott are the boys. John J gave Diena and myself wonderful opportunities to help ourselves. We give thanks to our parents.
