It's a debate that defines what's fair in the workplace and in the classroom. Is affirmative action giving people a chance to be treated equally, or is it just special treatment for a few? Proposition 424 would eliminate racial and gender preferences in Nebraska government and educational institutions with an amendment to the state's constitution. In advance of the Nov. 4 election, opposing organizations have formed to support and oppose the initiative. The unique format of 'Your Verdict: Affirmative Action on Trial' allows representatives on both sides of Proposition 424 to select their own witnesses, ask their own questions and frame the issue however they see fit, without any filters or analysis from the media. Procedures and rules for the mock trial were negotiated with NET Television prior to the taping of the event on Sept. 15, at Creighton University in Omaha.
