"The red stroud cloth was affixed to buckskin to preserve it and enable one to hang it up. The entire piece of black cloth was outlined originally around the entire perimeter as well as the diamond and heart cutouts by a single row of white seed beads. Both ends of the wrist strap were bifurcated. One of the tabs is missing on each end of the strap. It is really fortunate that the trade cloth strap survived as well as it did considering its age and I am sure it was carried and used for some time. The hide under the trade cloth wrist strap is not original to the strap. It was placed under it for preservation purposes. The whip portion of the quirt is original and is buffalo hide"
