"Peyote box. This box is of the type used by peyotists to store their ritual articles and regalia. Boxes of this type probably reflect the training in woodworking which many Indian boys received in Indian schools in the 1920s and 1930s. They are now a standard piece of peyote equipment. This box is somewhat unusual in its lack of decoration. It was given to James Howard by the maker, Valentine Parker, an Omaha Indian of Macy, Nebraska, in 1949"
