The Hin-be or Moccasin worn by the Omahas was less ornate than the styles adopted by other cognate tribes, there was only a narrow band of embroidery from the instep to the toe, broken midway by a small tuft, on each side of which was a little circle. They had no separate sole though these were sometimes put upon old moccasins when repairing them. Every tribe had its peculiar style and cut of moccasin, which was a important part of the costume of the people and held a significant position in certain tribal ceremonies"(La Flesche 1898:13-14).
