Description
: This
immense
artist-designed
flagstone
courtyard
contains
a
stream
,
fountain
and
benches
,
bordered
on
two
sides
by a
50-foot-tall
white
wall
. The
work
is
surrounded
by
modern
office
buildings
. This
artwork
is
an
immense
artist-designed
flagstone
courtyard
, with
five
major
elements
formed
to
represent
a
sluice
, a
river
, a
pyramid
, a
mound
or
tomb
, and a
volcano
. The
work
describes
either
a
mystical
journey
or an
evolutionary
process
. A
fifty-foot
white
wall
borders
two
sides
of the
plaza
.
Modern
office
buildings
are
located
on
two
sides
of the
work
.
Project
History
:
Henry
T
.
Segerstrom
commissioned
the
artist
to
produce
an
artwork
to
accompany
a
new
office
complex
Segerstrom
was
developing
.
Noguchi
and
Segerstrom
formed
a
strong
personal
relationship
over
the
two
years
of
planning
and
construction
on the
project
.
Segerstrom
and
Noguchi
consulted
with
each
other
on '
each
piece
and
every
detail
'.
Noguchi
also
worked
closely
with the
landscape
architecture
firm
of
Kammeyer
and
Partners
.
