is
a
large-scale
acoustic
sculpture
activated
by
waves
in the
San
Francisco
Bay.

Project
Description
: '
Wave
Organ
'
consists
of
30
concrete
pipes
,
three
and
four
inches
in
diameter
,
which
extend
out
into the
tidal
waters
of
San
Francisco
Bay.
The
site
provides
an
intimate
place
for
visitors
to
listen
to the
changing
tides
by
placing
their
ears
against
the
exposed
ends
of the
pipes.
A
stone
and
cement
terrace
was
designed
by the
artists
and
constructed
from the
remains
of
demolished
buildings
deposited
at the
jetty.
[The
Marina
Jetty
was
constructed
of
material
from a
demolished
cemetery.
Pieces
of
carved
marble
and
granite
found
in the
jetty
were
reused
in
building
the '
Wave
Organ'.
'
Sound
is
created
by the
impact
of
waves
against
the
pipe
ends
and the
subsequent
movement
of the
water
in and
out
of the
pipes.
