Notes	Located Harvard University, Science Center, Cambridge Street, Cambridge, MA. Sponsor/Developer: Harvard University. Project Description: This fountain, utilizing one-of-a-kind technology, contains 70 spray jets to produce a mist [of water] that appears to hover over a central rock area. The spray is designed to produce rainbows. The spray jets are regulated by a series of temperature and wind-speed indicators. The fountain operates in the winter by spraying steam at 180 degrees. [The steam] is not operational when the temperature exceeds 40 degrees, as the steam will not condense and will dangerously heat the spray jets. 150 native New England boulders were arranged in a 60-foot circular area surrounding the fountain. [Note: Peter Walker and Partners Landscape Architecture web site says that 159 stones were used. The Smithsonian Institution Research Information System (SIRIS) entry on Tanner Fountain, (sculpture) states that there are seven concentric circles of stones and the spray jets are recessed in the concrete between the inner three rings of boulders.
