Project
Description
: The
core
of this
cylindrical
tower
is
made
of
large
interlocking
concrete
sewer
pipes
.
Spiraling
rows
of
earth-colored
tile
portray
a
stylized
running
human
figure
ascending
the
tower
.
Cut-out
window
shapes
invite
the
viewer
to
peer
into the
interior
darkness
,
where
a
primitive
black
figure
raises
its
ladder-like
arms
to the
sky
.
Project

: This
work
was
commissioned
by the
Veterans
Administration
Art
and
Architecture
program
, and
administered
with the
cooperation
of The
National
Endowment
for the
Arts
.
McGowin
says

it's
about
the
human
spirit

the

spirit

is
exhibited

great
athletes

great
artists
, and
veterans.
