Notes	Photograph by Nancy Holt. Project Location: 17th St. between D and E Streets N.W., Washington, DC. Sponsor/Developer: International Sculpture Center. Project Description: The 'birdcage' shape of this sculpture mimics the domes of many of the buildings which front the Mall in Washington, DC. The interior of this artwork, located on a manicured lawn, is accessible through two openings on either side. Project History: This piece was selected from among works submitted by 88 artists who attended an International Sculpture Conference in 1980. An advisory committee chose a group of 20 artists who were commissioned to do site work to be placed throughout Washington, D.C. The artists were paid a fabrication fee. Nancy Holt's piece is one of two pieces that are still in place. The artwork belongs to the artist and is maintained by the National Park Service.
