Notes	Located Hudson River Promenade at West Thames Street (Thames St. and the Esplanade), Battery Park City, Manhattan, New York, NY. Sponsor/Developer: Battery Park City Authority. Project Description: This artwork is comprised of finely-crafted oversized furniture in an implied triangular outdoor room. The furniture consists of two lounge chairs, two nine-foot granite chairs and two stainless-steel picnic tables. The lounge chairs are made of purpleheart wood on stainless steel frames, set on Deer Island granite bases. One of the stainless-steel picnic tables has a truncated 'B' pole light fixture -- mimicking the traditional Battery Park City lamposts -- in its center; the other has a halka honey locust tree, set in cobblestone, rising from its center. Project History: The Battery Park City's Fine Arts Program was established in February 1982. It was designed to compliment the site's acclaimed architecture and public spaces with appropriate and significant works of art, to enhance the public environment and the enjoyment of people working and living at Battery Park City. The Program was conceived as a parallel to the Percent-for-Art policies adopted by New York City as a means to acquire works of arts for public areas. The Battery Park City Fine Arts Committee is an independent group of professionals from the art and architecture communities, who serve pro bono. The Committee advises the Battery Park City Authority (BPCA) by recommending appropriate sites for works of public art and artists to create unique works for these locations. The Program is financed by revenues BPCA receives from its lease agreements with private developers who are building at Battery Park City.
