Notes	Located in the Pawtucket Canal, either side of the Central Street Bridge between Market and Warren, Lowell, MA. Sponsor/Developer: Courier Corp., Raytheon Corp., Lowell Historic Preservation Commission, U.S. Dept. of Interior. Project Description: The sculpture is located on both sides of Central Street Bridge on concrete piers in the Pawtucket Canal. The work is a series of post and lintel granite stones, the largest of which is 15 feet high and weighs ten tons. This sculptural form represents a universal symbol of building and construction. The sculpture does not pesent a particular period in Lowell's history, but reflects the fundamental strength and solidity of Lowell's people. It visually expresses and explains the internal structural forces necessary to build anything: a frame, a home, a community. 'Human Construction' makes visible the unseen structural and spatial tensions within the community. Project History: This project was funded by Courier Citizen Corporation, The Raytheon Corporation, Lowell Plan, Inc., Lowell Historic Preservation Commission, U.S. Department of the Interior, and the Massachusetts Arts Lottery as administered by the Lowell Arts Council. Following a national design competition, Dorrien was selected to create a work for downtown Lowell.
