Project
Description
: This
artwork
is
a
collaboration
of
project
architects
and the
artist
.
Together
they
created
and
sited
eight
stairway
sculptures
for the
central
grand
staircase
of the
Gus
Wortham
Center
for the
Performing
Arts
. The
series
of
sculptures
are
progressive
in
nature
, with the
lower
sculptures
, those
first
encountered
when
ascending
the
stairway
,
being
the
start
of that
progression
. The
individual
sculptures
increase
in
size
as the
visitor
rises
up
the
passageway
. In
addition
to
form
development
,
color
and
lights
were
implemented
for
accent
purposes
.
Framed
by the
grand
scale
of the
architectural
setting
, the
stairway
sculptures
focus
attention
and
visual
balance
by
means
of
composition
,
complexity
of
form
,
silhouette
and
color
.
Project
History
: The
artist
for this
project
was
commissioned
by the
Gus
S
.
Wortham
Theater
Center
as an
integral
part
of the
building
designed
by the
Morris
Architects
.
