Notes	Built 1989. Project Description: The pink colors and adobe style of this airport terminal renovation capture the spirit of the pueblo architectural tradition of the region. A central objective for this design was to provide the traveler with an unmistakable sense of arriving in New Mexico. Spaces, facades, details, spatial transitions and ornament are all in the Southwestern style and evoke a spirit of the past. The exterior facade, with upper and lower roadways, is divided into several masses. Metal roof-shades extend between the separate masses sheltering the upper level, while adding patterns of light and shade. The airport addition succeeds in combining the latest in technological advancements, represented by the airplane, with the rich cultural traditions of the Southwest. Project cost: $120 million. Project History: The planning for this airport began in 1983 with the creation of a master plan prepared by Greine Engineering Sciences, Inc. The airport is designed as a destination rather than transfer airport. Funding was achieved through revenue bonds with no dependence upon airlines for support. Although funding was more than doubled to meet more realistic cost estimates and use projections, the project was still completed six months ahead of schedule. Size: 200,000 sq. ft.
