About the Collection
CONTENTdm is a database system that allows you to search and view digital collections. You may browse through all collection items, type search words into multiple search fields, or search across all fields in a collection or collections.
If you have more questions regarding CONTENTdm than what are answered here, there is a FAQ
at the CONTENTdm website.
Other features
- The metadata fields (Title, Author, Subject, Description.) are customizable, and use Dublin Core mapping. Each field can be made searchable, and when the collection is 'built' by the Collection Administrator, an index is created of all the keywords in the searchable fields. When viewing an item, the highlighted words can be clicked on to perform a search for the term across that field.
-
A controlled vocabulary can be used to force consistent entering of data and catch misspellings on the collection management side.
- Compound objects can be created that have several images linked to one title. Click here for an example.
- Customized queries can be added to the pages. These queries can be set to search a collection for a particular type of material (for example,'acrylic' ), or index a list of subjects to further categorize results.
- A zoom and pan feature in the item view will bring up the item in another window to center and zoom in on various parts of an image.
- Adding items to 'My Favorites' allows you to create a slide show of selected images, as well as compare items side by side and zoom in on certain portions. 'My Favorites' can be created and saved as html documents for moving from machine to machine. The page just needs to be opened in a browser and the 'Make Favorites' button clicked to have them available for use through the CONTENTdm system.

Security
Access to the CONTENTdm collections at the University of Nebraska - Lincoln is handled through a proxy server redirection. If you are on campus, you will be given access to all collections. If you are off-campus, you will be prompted to login to authenticate yourself as an authorized user of the University's materials. Public users can still access certain collections made available through the public link .
